Rattlesnake at a Square Dance

This was definitely the most experimental piece yet in terms of technique and vision. It was almost entirely from my mind and a collage of reference images. I tried to convey the wild frenzy of a crowd and the way people meld together, as well as separating the focal point (the girl in pink). I struggled a lot with finding ways to let the background characters blend into one another, while still being individual in their own way. I wanted to convey the conflicting feelings of growing up and witnessing the older girls with a mix of admiration and nerves. I wanted this piece to represent both the awkward period when a girl is teetering on the edge of adolescence as well as the excitement of young adult years.
