Fleeting

I loved the candid nature of this picture, and I wanted to try and do more of a portrait, with an emphasis on the face being more detailed than the rest of the piece to draw the attention there. This photo was taken in Venice, and I loved the idea of painting a fleeting moment in time while being surrounded by buildings and art that are centuries old. It feels like one more moment added to the history of the world. I projected in order to get my sketch, then I underpainted it with drippy turpentine-y red. I tried to use more turpentine-y paint, working to layer as opposed to globing on textured paint. I took inspiration from some of the people we have been studying in art history lately, and the method of glazing using oil paints.
